Welcome to Cathexis by me, Bianca Mikaila.
What Cathexis even means…to me
Cathexis \ kə-ˈthek-səs \ : (n.) investment of mental or emotional energy in a person, object, or idea
Why this word? Aside from it sounding pretty and deep (like something you’d see on a Tumblr “most beautiful words” post), it’s also an suitable descriptor for my approach to the world. All my life, I’ve cared too much about my creations (from spending hours on website layout to crying for my D&D characters). Combined with my fascination with technology, you get the teenage equivalent of a literature teacher: one who tries to find meaning in everything.
Why this newsletter exists
This started because of an internal conflict. I identified as a creative, but I was always consuming content — and never creating it. I felt like I wasn’t truly learning from what I read/watched/listened to, since insights were easily forgotten. I needed a way to truly process the knowledge I was absorbing; why not help others with it as well?
Also, I — an intuitively visual person — am scared of writing. T̶h̶a̶n̶k̶s̶,̶ ̶c̶h̶i̶l̶d̶h̶o̶o̶d̶ ̶m̶e̶,̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶s̶t̶a̶r̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶t̶o̶n̶s̶ ̶o̶f̶ ̶s̶t̶o̶r̶i̶e̶s̶ ̶b̶u̶t̶ ̶n̶e̶v̶e̶r̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶n̶ ̶f̶i̶n̶i̶s̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶o̶n̶e̶!̶ So time to conquer the fear, I guess.
